BRIGHT WHITE KITCHEN

BRIGHT WHITE KITCHEN

In our first home I wanted to create a unique kitchen despite living in a tract town home -and on a small budget.  I ripped out the granite counter tops and replaced with prefabricated marble, and added a full wall tile splash to the ceiling.  There was an opening above the sink that I filled with floating shelves.  I wanted this to be usable and we loved having our favorite dishes and glasses easily accessible to grab or unload from the dishwasher.  For the Island I kept the original structure but switched out the cabinet fronts for drawer fronts.  I love the use and ease of drawers!  I can always organize and access things much better in drawers.  I painted the island a dark navy, Hale Navy by Benjamin Moore.  For the countertop I used a white oak stained butcher block.  It was just enough to make it unique to our family without a full renovation.

I was on a hunt to find something really unique and large scale but open for the light fixture.  I loved how this turned out - I was a little nervous when it first arrived and just seemed too big for our smaller home.  It added a lot of interest going big and bold, I'm glad I did!

I love this artist and wanted to have a piece of hers in our home.  I love that it is a little unexpected for a kitchen.
